Topulist is a place for you to express your favorite things in life. Here you can create lists that everyone can add their favorites to or vote on existing entries. As you contribute to each Topulist, your own personal list of favorites is created and can be seen in your Topulist member profile. Or you can just sit back, relax and see what others think about certain products, ideas, and a plethora of other random things.
A Topulist is a list of favorites on any topic that all users can create and contribute to. Topulist topics can be created by filling in the blank: What (or who) is your favorite ________? For example: topics for Topulists can be "Movie", "Book", "Brand Of Jeans", "Author". A Topulist is not a survey, it is always a list of absolute favorites. Each list's entries of favorites are in order based on popularity. For example, the "Movie" Topulist is a list of movies where the movie(s) listed on number 1 has the most votes and is thus most popular.
A Topulist topic must be in singular form. Ex. use "Movie" instead of "Movies." A Topulist topic must be formatted to grammatically fit into this sentence: What (or who) is your favorite _______? Also, Topulists may be created that are subsets of or more specific than related Topulist topics. For instance the Topulist "Golf Course" and the Topulist "Golf Course In Kansas City" are different and able to coexist on this site. Topulists must be "PG-13". Inappropriate Topulists will be taken down or cleaned up.
An entry is a favorite. For example, it would fill in the blank: My favorite movie is _____. You may have only one entry per Topulist and one item per entry. If you don't have an absolute favorite or just can't pick a favorite, just don't contribute to that Topulist. Also, it is possible to add entries that are more specific than existing entries in the same Topulist. Keep entries "PG-13". Inappropriate entries will be taken down or cleaned up.
No. Enter only one entry per Topulist. If you attempt to create two entries, the newest entry will replace the old entry. This is also how entries are changed if you wish to update your favorites. If others voted on your old favorite, that entry will still exist, but will be less one of your votes.
No. Enter only one absolute favorite. This makes your Topulist entry more votable and keeps the content of the list cleaner and of higher quality. If you do not have a favorite or just can't decide among a few of your top favorites, find another Topulist in which you do have an absolute favorite. For example, for the Topulist "Dog Breed", do not enter "Rottweiler, dachsund, and pug." You must pick one dog breed.
Search first to make sure that the one you want to create does not already exist to ensure the reliability and quality of the site's content. Sometimes the same topic can be worded differently, for example, "Type Of Dog" and "Breed Of Dog". Do not allow this type of duplicate to be created. In the future, users will be able to report duplicate topulists. Next, click on the big purple "New Topulist" button, read the guidelines, and follow the prompts.
Great minds think alike. Contribute to the existing Topulist. Duplicate Topulists will be fused together. Eventually users can report duplicate lists.

Search tags are like keywords for your Topulist. Tags help other people find your Topulist if it has something in common with their search phrase. For example, if your Topulist is "Movie", you could use the tags "entertainment, film, theater" to help users find your Topulist. So if a user types in "film" for their search, your "Movie" Topulist will come up in their search results. Each search tag must be separated with a comma.
First, make sure that your favorite does not already exist on the list. If it does, click "Make it my favorite" next to the entry to vote for it. If your favorite is not in the Topulist, click on "add a new entry" at the top of the corresponding Topulist page you want to contribute to, read the guidelines, and follow the prompts.
You may not delete a Topulist entry at this time, but you can change it. If your favorite has changed, you may update your entry by simply acting as though you have never contributed to that Topulist before. "Vote" on an existing entry if it is your favorite by clicking "make it my favorite" next to the entry, or if your favorite is not on the Topulist, click "add a new entry" at the top of the Topulist page. Once you make the change, your old entry will be less one vote and your new entry will have one more.
That's ok. In this case, click on "make it my favorite" next to that entry. Topulists are shared lists by all users. The significance of these common lists is that they are displayed in order by popularity. If you share a favorite with someone, it simply means that more than one person find that item to be their favorite. Your personal list of favorites can be viewed in your profile.
Every time you make something your favorite, you are voting for that entry whether you click "Add a new entry" or "Make it my favorite".

They are in order by how many votes they have. Every time a user makes the entry their favorite, the entry receives a vote. Those with the most votes are listed as number one. More than one entry may be listed by a number indicating a tie.
This indicates that the entries next to that number all have the same number of votes. They are tied. (Every time a user makes an entry their favorite, the entry receives a vote.)
Your profile may be viewed by all users to see when picked at random on the home page. You may set your profile to private in "manage account" if you wish for your favorites to be hidden by other users.
You can view other users' profiles by clicking on a username anywhere it is displayed throughout the site. You may find them in the member spotlight section of the home page, on the "view voters" link, and on comments.

Currently, you can use your Yahoo avatar for Topulist. To do this, go to "Manage Account", and find the text box for your Yahoo avatar url. To get the url, log in to your Yahoo Avatars account, and there will be an export link. When you are selecting the criteria for your link, set the "size" to small, "format" to png, and "generate" to url. After you do all the steps, copy the generated url, and paste it into the text box back on the Topulist "Manage Account" screen. After you save your changes, you will then see your avatar.
